Laura Melia
Speech and Language Therapist
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2016 with a Bsc. (Hons) from Trinity College, Dublin.
I have three years experience working with children 2 – 18 years presenting with speech sound disorders/delays, Developmental Language Disorders (DLD), fluency difficulties (stammering/stuttering), voice disorders and social communication difficulties. I carried out my undergraduate research in the area of ASD as it’s a big area of interest of mine, as is the area of fluency. My passion for yoga and mindfulness also influences the way in which I work with children and their families.
Depending on the communication difficulty that a child presents with, Speech and Language Therapy can take the form of direct intervention with the child or coaching parents and teachers in the use of various strategies to facilitate speech, language, fluency and social communication development.

One of my aims, as a speech and language therapist, is always to help families and other important players in the child’s life to gain a greater understanding of the child’s communication difficulties so they can become empowered to help by using the valuable skills they already have.
I am a full member of the IASLT (Irish Association of Speech and Language Therapists) and am registered with CORU. I am certified in Hanen More Than Words, Palin Family Communications Therapy, Elkan (5-11 years) and Lámh Module One. I also completed my 200hr yoga teacher training with YogaHub, Dublin in 2019.
